I’ve been spending a lot of time working on my cinematic skills and video and now that I’m starting to be really happy with my video I’ve decided to up my vlogging game as well! So I ordered a new camera that I could use not only for documenting my work and processes but also for my VLOG.
In my previous vlogs, I was usually vlogging with a Gorilla Pod and my A6500 camera and a wide lens, usually my 10-18mm. That was a good setup but I wasn’t happy with the quality of the Sony 10-18mm lens AND I couldn’t see myself which ruined a lot of my shots. Not being able to see that my shots were overexposed which was a huge deal. When I film, I'm always looking for ways to compose my shots, even when I'm vlogging.
The camera also comes with a viewfinder. I love how the viewfinder is hidden. When I'm vlogging sine it's not needed, being able to hide the viewfinder is really convenient. Sony cameras usually come with an electronic viewfinder which is really great. It allows you to see how the shoot is actually going to look like when you take a picture.
So far I’m really happy with this camera. I can take slow motion when I need to.. its always on me. It performs really well in low light and best of all I can shoot in a flat color profile mode such as CINE or S-Log. I’ve already started playing with this camera and every vlog I’ll be making moving forward will most likely be shot with my new vlogging camera.
This camera doesn't have an Audio Jack which is really unfortunate. I have a Rhode micro that could fit perfectly on this camera when needed. Even with the Wind noise reduction, this is not enough so I had to rely on some hacks like taping a Windscreen muff on the camera.
One thing I noticed in comparison to the Panasonic G7x is that the size of the screen is smaller on this camera. Also, the G7x screen quality was much better.
- Very small and compact
- Flat color profile
- Flip screen
- Digital ND Filter
- Low Light Capabilities
- No Audio Jack
- Short slow-motion capability only allow you to film 5s
- Battery Life: especially when shooting in 4k or Slow motion.
- When you close the viewfinder, the camera turns off.
There is a big debate out there about what’s the best vlogging camera – I’ve already made my pick and it's this one. When I had the Panasonic G7x, I hated not having a viewfinder – It's a necessity. This camera offers the best image quality in the smallest pocketable package.
